sweet potato soup

  you could sprinkle the top of this soup with crumbled bacon, green onions, and/or fresh sage.
Ingredients:
  3 pound   sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces
  1/2 cup   onions, chopped
  1/4 cup   maple syrup
  1 clove   garlic
  1/2 tsp.   dried sage
  1/4 tsp.   salt
  1/8 tsp.   pepper
  2 14 ounce cans   chicken broth
  1 cup   water
  1/2 cup   half-and-half, light cream, or whole milk
Directions:
  Combine first 7 ingredients in slow cooker. Pour broth and water over the top. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours. Mash soup to desired consistency. Stir in half and half.
